In the /etc/usermap.cfg file, there might be domain names that contain a dot. The following list describes how Data ONTAP interprets these domain names:
If the filer is in a pre-Windows 2000 domain, Data ONTAP follows these rules when interpreting a domain name containing a dot in the domain\user format:
netapp.com\john_smith
engineering.1234567890corporation.com\john_smith
If the filer is in a Windows 2000 domain, you can specify a user name in the domain\user format. The string before the first dot in domain is the NetBIOS form of the domain name, and the entire string in domain is the DNS domain name.
For example, engineering is the NetBIOS form of the domain name and engineering.1234567890corporation.com is the DNS domain name in the following name:
engineering.1234567890corporation.com\john_smith
