Effects of qtree changes on quotas

Effect of deleting a qtree on tree quotas  Top

When you delete a qtree, all quotas that are applicable to that qtree, whether they are explicit or derived, are automatically deleted.

If you create a new qtree with the same name as the one you deleted, the quotas previously applied to the deleted qtree are not applied automatically to the new qtree. If a default tree quota exists, Data ONTAP creates new derived quotas for the new qtree. However, explicit quotas in the /etc/quotas file do not apply until you reinitialize quotas.

Effect of renaming a qtree on tree quotas  Top

When you rename a qtree, Data ONTAP keeps the same ID for the tree. As a result, all quotas applicable to the qtree, whether they are explicit or derived, continue to be applicable.

Effects of changing qtree security style on user quotas  Top

ACLs in a qtree affect how Data ONTAP identifies users for quota calculation, as described in How Data ONTAP identifies users. ACLs in a qtree change depending on how you change the security style of the qtree:

After you change the security of a qtree, you must turn on quotas on the volume containing the qtree.
