Initiator groups are tables of unique identifiers (WWPNs or iSCSI nodenames) of initiators that you specify have access to LUNs. Initiator groups can have multiple initiators, and multiple initiator groups can have the same initiator.
When you create an initiator group, you need to specify the following information:
Note
You might find it useful to provide meaningful names for initiator groups, ones that describe the hosts that can access the LUNs mapped to them. However, the name you assign to an initiator group is independent of the name of the host. If you name an initiator group sun-1, for example, it is not mapped to the actual IP host name (DNS name) of the host.
Note
An initiator group can only contain one type of node, either FCP or iSCSI nodes.
You use initiator groups to control host access to LUNs. Typically, you only want one host to have access to a LUN. However, if you are using multipathing software, or have clustered hosts, you need to have redundant paths to the same LUN. The following table illustrates how four initiator groups are used to give access to the LUNs for four different hosts using the FCP service.
In the following table, note that the clustered hosts (Host3 and Host4) can use the same initiator group for common access to the LUNs mapped to solaris-group2. Also note that solaris-group3 contains the WWPNs of Host4 to store local information not intended to be seen by its partner.
