Managing the iSCSI SAN

Managing the iSCSI service on filer interfaces

Command to use  Top

You use the iswt command to manage the iSCSI service on the filer's Ethernet interfaces. The iswt command enables you to control the network interfaces used for iSCSI communication. For example, you can enable iSCSI communication over specific Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) interfaces.

Displaying iSCSI status on filer interfaces  Top

To display the status of the iSCSI service on filer interfaces, complete the following step.

Step

Action

1

Enter the following command:

iswt interface show [-a|interface]

-a specifies all interfaces.

interface is a specific Ethernet interface.

Example

The following example shows the iSCSI service enabled on two filer Ethernet interfaces:

iswt interface -a
Interface e0 enabled
Interface e5 enabled

Enabling iSCSI on a filer interface  Top

To enable the iSCSI service on an interface, complete the following step.

Step

Action

1

Enter the following command:

iswt interface enable {-a | <interface> ... }

-a specifies all interfaces.

interface is a specific Ethernet interface.

Example

The following example enables the iSCSI service on interface e5:

iswt interface enable e5

Disabling iSCSI on a filer interface  Top

To disable the iSCSI service on an interface, complete the following step.

Step

Action

1

Enter the following command:

iswt interface disable [-f] {-a |<interface> ... }

-f forces the termination of any outstanding iSCSI sessions without prompting you for confirmation. If you do not use this option, the iswt command displays a message notifying you that active sessions are in progress on the interface and requests confirmation before terminating these sessions and disabling the interface.

-a specifies all interfaces.

interface is a specific Ethernet interface.

Enabling iSCSI on vifs  Top

To enable the iSCSI service for a vif, you must ensure that all the interfaces in the vif are enabled for the iSCSI service. If the iSCSI service is disabled on any of the interfaces in a vif, then you cannot transmit iSCSI traffic on that vif.
