By default, vfilers can use the protocols that are licensed for the hosting filer. For example, if the hosting filer is licensed for CIFS and NFS, the vfilers created can also use the CIFS and NFS protocols.
You can, however, select the protocols that can be run on the vfilers.
Vfilers support the following protocols:
If CIFS or NFS is running before you disallow the protocol, it remains running until the filer reboots. Disallowing a protocol, however, causes packets for that protocol destined for that vfiler to be ignored.
After you allow the protocol again, the vfiler resumes processing the packets for that protocol.
If CIFS or NFS is not running and you try to enable it when it is disallowed, an error message appears.
After you allow the protocol again, you must enable the protocol to allow the packets for that protocol to be processed.
After you disallow rsh, attempts to connect to the vfiler using rsh fail, regardless of the rsh.enable option setting.
After you allow rsh again, you can connect to the vfiler using rsh if the rsh.enable option is On.
Allowing or disallowing rsh has no effect on the rsh.enable option. Also, you can enable or disable the rsh.enable option regardless of whether rsh is allowed.
To allow or disallow protocols for vfilers, complete the following steps.

| 2 | To allow a protocol, enter the following command: vfiler allow vfiler_template proto=protocol ... protocol is nfs, cifs, or rsh. ExampleThe following example allows the NFS and rsh protocols on the vfiler named vfiler1: vfiler allow vfiler1 proto=nfs proto=rsh |

| 3 | To disallow a protocol, enter the following command: vfiler disallow vfiler_template proto=protocol ... protocol is nfs, cifs, or rsh. ExampleThe following command disallows the NFS and rsh protocols on the vfiler named vfiler1: |
