Establishing a vfiler

Setting up a vfiler manually

When to use this section  Top

If you use the default form of the vfiler create command, you are prompted for setup information (and CIFS setup information) as soon as the vfiler has been created.

In that case, you can skip this section unless you need to change the networking configuration.

If you use the -n option of the vfiler create command, no setup is done, and no protocol servers will run on the vfiler until you set it up manually.

The procedure for setting up a vfiler manually is similar to that for setting up a filer. You run the setup program, which enables you to

If the vfiler is licensed to deliver CIFS service, you must run cifs setup, as you would for a filer, in addition to running setup.

Setting up the vfiler  Top

To set up the vfiler, complete the following steps.

Step

Action

1

Enter the following command:

vfiler run vfiler_name setup
Result

The setup command displays prompts for you to configure the vfiler. After you respond to all the prompts, configuration files, such as the /etc/exports file, are created in the /etc directory for the vfiler.

Note
Unlike the setup command for the filer, the setup command for vfilers does not cause NFS to start running. For more information about starting NFS, see Chapter 4, File Access Using NFS and CIFS.

If the vfiler runs the CIFS protocol, go to the next step. Otherwise, you are done.

2

Enter the following command:

vfiler run vfiler_name cifs setup
Result

The cifs setup command displays prompts for you to configure CIFS on the vfiler. After you respond to all the prompts, CIFS starts running.
