Who can configure virus scanning

You can specify how virus scanning works on files owned by the hosting filer and files owned by vfilers. Vfiler administrators, however, cannot configure virus scanning for vfilers.

Filers with which virus scanners can be registered

Virus scanners can be registered with the hosting filer or any vfiler. You can determine whether files on a vfiler are scanned by virus scanners registered with the hosting filer or the vfiler.

Virus scanning for vfiler0

Virus scanning works for vfiler0 in the same way as it does for a filer not licensed for vfilers. See the Data Protection Guide for how to configure virus scanning for a filer.

Requirements for virus scanning for a vfiler other than vfiler0

These requirements must be met before you can scan files on a vfiler other than vfiler0:

Virus scanning must be enabled for the vfiler.
A virus scanner must be available for the vfiler because one of the following requirements is met:
- A virus scanner must be registered with the vfiler.
- A virus scanner must be registered with the hosting filer and the vfiler must be allowed to use it.

Effect of virus scanner availability on CIFS access

CIFS clients of the vfiler are not allowed to open any files on the vfiler if all the following conditions apply:

Virus scanning is enabled.
No virus scanner is available for the vfiler.
For the vfiler, the mandatory_scan option for vscan is set to On.
