A few OS have been tested by the author or customers. Not all versions of the simulator are tested against each Linux platform. We would appreciate any feedback regarding other Linux platforms that we haven't tested via the ONTAP Simulator forum.
Network Appliance recommends running RedHat 8.0. Development of the simulator is performed on RedHat 8. Other distributions of Linux may not work with future versions of the simulator and additionally will contain other operating system bugs that might affect how the simulator works.

RedHat 9.0 may issue the following complaint when running the simulator. It
can be ignored: Incorrectly built binary which access errno, h_errno
or _res directly. Needs to be fixed.
Additionally we have had reports that some installs of RedHat 9 can completely
lock up when the simulator exits. This is very unusual behaviour!
There have also been reports of network problems such as the simulator vanishing
off the network until an ifdown and ifup is performed.
