Is it possible to upgrade a simulator from one version to
another?
|
|
|
It is possible to upgrade but this procedure is designed for experts only.
If you are unfamiliar with Filer upgrades or are new to the simulator then
we recommend that you delete your existing simulator and instead install a
new simulator vs. performing an upgrade.
- Shut down and backup your existing simulator.
- From the NOW website go into the Download
Software portion of the site, choose Data ONTAP for an Intel based Filer
(currently the F8xx and FAS9xx
ranges)
- Select the correct version of ONTAP that the simulator will be
running. It must be the version that the simulator was designed for. E.g.
if the
simulator is for version 6.4.1 then you should choose 6.4.1.
- Download
the system files either for Windows or UNIX as appropriate.
- Start your simulator.
As per a normal Filer mount/map a network drive to the root volume and
extract the system files. If you run
out of disk
space
then shut down the simulator and add an extra disk to add more space.
See the Configuration of the Simulator for
more details whilst remembering that you
can add any size disk into an existing volume.
- Shut down the simulator.
- From the CD or extracted tar image of the new version
start the setup.sh script with the
-x option to perform the
upgrade.
[root@localhost /root]# mount /mnt/cdrom
[root@localhost /root]# cd /mnt/cdrom
[root@localhost cdrom]# ./setup.sh -x
Script version X (Jul 2003)
Allowing upgrades
Where to install to? [/sim]: /sim
It appears that a simulator is already installed in /sim
The existing simulator is running ONTAP version: 6.4 and script VersionString=”Script version A (Jul 2003)”
The new simulator will run ONTAP version: 6.4.1 and script VersionString=”Script version X (Jul 2003)”
Perform an upgrade of the simulator? [no]: yes
Unpacking sim.tgz to /sim
Upgrade complete. Running /sim/setup.sh to allow you to configure any new options.
- Start your new simulator and observe that it is running the new version of
ONTAP.
