Connecting a clustered system

Connecting a clustered FAS270c  Top

To connect your clustered FAS270c, complete the following steps.

Step

Action

1

Put on the antistatic wrist strap and grounding leash.

2

Make sure that the appliance is turned off.

3

Connect your appliance to the network by plugging the network cable into either the left or right network input connections (green ports) at the center of both CPU modules at the rear of the appliance. The following illustration shows the connections made to both CPU modules.

4

Connect console cables to the console connection port (purple port) on both CPU modules, using the DB-9 to RJ-45 console adapter. For information about connecting a console cable, see Connecting the storage appliance to an ASCII terminal console.

5

If...

Then...

You are not attaching a third-party device to the Fibre Channel port (orange port)

Insert the Fibre Channel terminator into the Fibre Channel port (orange port) at the far left of the CPU module.

You are attaching a third-party device, such as a tape backup or a Fibre Channel switch

Leave the Fibre Channel port (orange port) unterminated, and see Connecting to third-party devices.

6

Make sure that the 1 Gb/2 Gb switch is set to the 1 Gb position.

Caution
This switch sets the Fibre Channel link speed to 1 Gb/s or 2 Gb/s. The FAS270c does not work if the switch is set to 2 Gb/s. You must set the switch to 1 Gb/s.

7

Set the terminate switch on both CPU modules to Off if you are connecting your system to one or two additional disk shelves. Set it to On if your system has no additional disk shelves.

8

Set the shelf ID to "1." The disk shelf ID switch on the back of the appliance is used to differentiate the FAS270c from additional disk shelves connected to the system. For the FAS270c, the default and recommended setting for the ID switch is "1."

Note
When you use the thumbwheel switch on the back of the appliance to change the disk shelf ID, you must first power-off the appliance, change the thumbwheel value, and then power-on the appliance to make the change take effect.

9

Make sure that the appliance power switches are turned off.

10

If you are...
