Cluster installation types

Clusters in equipment racks

How your cluster arrives  Top

Depending on the amount of storage you ordered, you need to install the equipment in one or more telco-style equipment racks. These racks can hold one or two nodes on the bottom and eight or more disk shelves. For information about how to install the disk shelves and nodes into the equipment racks, see the appropriate Fibre Channel disk shelf guide and the F800 Series Hardware Guide.

The basic configuration you receive with your cluster is a minimum of two Fibre Channel Arbitrated Loop (FC-AL) adapters or one dual Fibre Channel adapter per node. You can also add additional FC-AL or dual Fibre Channel adapters.

The dual Fibre Channel adapter has two ports: one for Channel A and one for Channel B. This adapter enables you to use one FC-AL adapter per node for both the Channel A and Channel B loops, instead of one adapter per channel. Using the dual Fibre Channel adapter in a cluster can free as many as two PCI slots each in your local and partner nodes.

Your node also arrives with one cluster interconnect adapter or one VI cluster adapter per node. These adapters enable you to cluster your nodes together.
