Updating your software is a two-part process:
To update your Data ONTAP and filer firmware, complete the following steps.
| 1 | ||
| 2 | Compare the version of Data ONTAP and filer firmware to the most current version of both pieces of software. If they are current, go to Cabling your system into a cluster; otherwise, continue with this procedure. |
|
| 3 | ||
| 4 | ||
| 5 | Update each node to the latest version of Data ONTAP. See the System Administrator's Guide for more information. |
|
| 6 | ||
To update disk firmware for Data ONTAP 6.1 and earlier, complete the following steps.
Note
Only disks that have firmware files present in the /etc/disk_fw directory are updated during firmware updates.
Caution
Do not update disk firmware on active nodes. Doing so might cause client drop-off. See the disk_fw_update man page for more information.
| 1 | Disable your cluster by entering the following command on the local node: cf disable |
| 2 | Load any Data ONTAP updates, as described in Updating your software. |
| 3 | Shut down the partner node by entering the following command from the partner console: halt |
| 4 | Install the new disk firmware by entering the following command: disk_fw_update |
| 5 | Halt the local node, then boot the partner node. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 on the partner node. |
| 6 | Reboot the local node and reboot the partner node by entering the following command on the console of the local and partner nodes: reboot |
| 7 | Reenable clustering by entering the following command: cf enable |
To update disk firmware for Data ONTAP 6.1.1, 6.0.3, and later, complete the following steps.
Note
Only disks that have firmware files present in the /etc/disk_fw directory are updated during firmware updates.
Caution
Do not update disk firmware on active filers. Doing so might cause client drop-off. See the disk_fw_update man page for more information.
