Requirements for adding a disk shelf
What to do if you need more storage
One FC-AL interface can connect up to a maximum of eight daisy-chained disk shelves (four for DS14 disk shelves) per FC-AL adapter. You must add an additional FC-AL adapter to each of your filers for every set of eight disk shelves you add, up to the maximum of FC-AL adapters supported by your filer. See the F800 Series Field Service Guide for FC-AL installation information.
See the NOW Web page at http://now.netapp.com for the maximum number of FC-AL adapters your filer supports.
Required tools and manuals
You must have the following cables and components for each disk shelf added:
- Two shelf-to-shelf cables; one each for the Channel A and Channel B loops
- Two power cords
- Two power outlets, on separate circuits if possible
- The F800 Series Field Service Guide for FC-AL installation instructions
- The appropriate Fibre Channel disk shelf guide
