Cabling a MetroClusters with QuickLoop

Step 4: Cabling the node, disk shelves, and switch

Cabling the node, disk shelves, and switch  Top

To cable the node, disk shelves, and switch, complete the following steps, using the illustration for reference.

Step

Action

1

Cable one end of the SC/LC VI cluster adapter cable to the VI cluster adapter, then cable the other end of the cable to the switch port. In the example, the port was port 5 on the switch.

2

Connect the local disk, pool 0 of the mirror, by completing the following steps:

  1. Connect the Channel A loop by cabling one end of an SC/LC FC-AL to disk shelf cable to Port 1 on the FC HBA adapter in slot 5, and the other end of the cable to the Channel A LRC of the local disk shelf. In the example, the local disk shelf is identified as M1_local.
  2. Connect the Channel B loop by cabling one end of an SC/LC disk shelf-to-switch cable to the Channel B In port on the disk shelf and the other end to the switch port for the local disk. The example shows switch port Port 1.

    Note
You should see green LEDs at the cable connections. If they do not light, reseat the cable and SFPs. If they still do not light, replace the cable or SFP.

3

Connect the partner's remote disk, pool 1 of the mirror, by completing the following steps:

  1. Connect the Channel A loop by cabling an SC/LC disk shelf-to- switch cable to the Channel A port of the partner disk shelf and the other end to the switch port for the partner disk. The example shows switch port 4.
  2. Connect the Channel B loop by connecting an SC/LC FC-AL to disk shelf cable to Port 1 on the FC HBA adapter in slot 7 and the other end to the In port of the Channel B LRC of the partner disk.
4

Connect the FC-AL adapters to the switch by completing the following steps:

  1. Connect the switch to the FC-AL adapter by cabling one end of an LC/LC FC-AL to switch cable to Port 2 on the FC HBA adapter in slot 5, and the other end to the port on the switch reserved for the adapter. The example shows switch port 3.
  2. Connect the switch to the FC-AL adapter by cabling one end of an LC/LC FC-AL to switch cable to Port 2 on the FC HBA adapter in slot 7 and the other end of the cable to the port on the switch reserved for the adapter. The example shows switch port 2.
5

Make sure that you terminate the loops in each disk shelf.
