Cabling Channel B

Channel B loop cabling differences  Top

The procedure for cabling the Channel B loops for a standard cluster and mirrored cluster are different. Follow the directions in the appropriate section:

Cabling the Channel B loops in a standard cluster  Top

To cable the Channel B loops in a standard cluster, complete the following steps, using the diagram for reference.

Step

Action

1

Cable the dual-port FC-AL adapter in slot 2, Bottom port of the local node, to the partner node disk shelf 1 Channel B LRC, ESH, or ESH2 Input port.

2

Cable the local node's disk shelf 1 Channel B LRC, ESH, or ESH2 Output port to the local node's disk shelf 2 Channel B LRC, ESH, or ESH2 Input port. Label this cable with a striped label.

3

Repeat Step 2 for the remaining disk shelves in the disk pool.

4

Set the terminate switches to Off on all but the last disk shelf in the pool, then set the terminate switch on the last disk shelf to On.

Note
ESH2 modules are auto-sensing, and therefore do not have a terminate switch.

5

Repeat Step 1 through Step 4 for the partner node.

6

Go to Cabling the cluster adapters.

Cabling the Channel B loops in a mirrored cluster  Top

To cable the Channel B loops in a mirrored cluster, complete the following steps, using the diagram for reference.

Step

Action

1

Cable the dual-port FC-AL adapter in slot 8, Bottom port of the local node to the partner node disk shelf 1 Channel B LRC, ESH, or ESH2 Input port of disk pool 1, then cable the dual-port FC-AL adapter in slot 5, Bottom port of the local node to the partner node disk shelf 1 Channel B LRC, ESH, or ESH2 Input port of disk pool 0.

2

Cable the local node's disk shelf 1 Channel B LRC, ESH, or ESH2 Output port to the local node's disk shelf 2 Channel B LRC, ESH, or ESH2 Input port of disk pool 1. Label this cable with a striped label.

3

Repeat Step 2 connecting Channel B output to input, for any remaining disk shelves in the disk pool.

Note
The illustration shows only two disk shelves per disk pool. The number of disk shelves per pool might be different for your appliance.

4

Set the terminate switches to Off on all but the last disk shelf in the loop, then set the terminate switch on the last disk shelf to On.

Note
ESH2 modules are auto-sensing, and therefore do not have a terminate switch.

5

Repeat Step 1 through Step 4 for the partner node.

6

Go to Cabling the cluster adapters.
