Step 5: Configuring the nodes

Configuring the nodes  Top

After cabling and booting the node, you must configure it and the disk shelves, and install any software that will run on the local node.

To configure the nodes, complete the following steps.

Step

Action

1

Install the new Data ONTAP release on the local node and run setup.

2

License cluster and syncmirror_local on the local node by entering the following command:

license add xxxxx yyyyy

xxxxx is the license code you received for the cluster feature and yyyyy is the syncmirror_local license.

Note
If you are using a version of Data ONTAP earlier than 6.4, the command is license option=code.

3

Reboot the local node by entering the following command:

reboot
4

Repeat Step 1 through Step 3 for the remote node.

5

License cluster_remote on both nodes.

6

Set up your new mirrored volumes by entering the following command from each console:

vol create vol-name -m ndisks[@disk-size]

Note
The root volumes on both nodes must be mirrored.

Note
If you have existing volumes, use the vol mirror vol-name command.

7

Enable clustering by entering the following command on the console:

cf enable
8

Check to make sure that the node can see all disk shelves by entering the following command on the console:

vol status -r

Result

Both local and remote disks should be displayed. The local volumes should be mirrored and there should be a list of both disk pools. It should also list spares disks for both pools.

9

Configure both nodes, as described in Chapter 4, Configuring the Cluster.

Note
You do not have to reenable clustering licenses.
