Step 2: Enabling licenses
About licenses
License activation enables the cluster to run software that is installed on the cluster. For clustering, you must enable the cluster license at bring up.
If you are setting up a mirrored cluster, you must also enable the syncmirror_local license for synchronous mirroring. If you are setting up a cluster with nodes in separate locations, you must also enable the cluster_remote license.
There are other licenses that you can set, depending on what licensed software is installed on the cluster. The process for enabling each license is the same. See the System Administration Guides for additional licenses you can set.
Enabling licenses on the cluster
To enable a license on the cluster, complete the following steps.

Enter the cluster license and code on both node consoles, as shown in the following example:
license add xxxxx
xxxxx is the license code you received for the cluster feature.
Note If you are setting up a mirrored cluster, you should enable Syncmirror_local during this step.
Note If you are using a version of Data ONTAP earlier than 6.4, the command is license option=code.

|
Reboot both nodes using the following command:
reboot
|
|
3
|
Enable clustering on each node by entering the following command on the local node console:

Check to see that clustering is enabled by entering the following command on each node console:
cf status
Cluster enabled, filer 2 is up.
