Removing F800 series clustering hardware

Tasks for removing the hardware  Top

Removing F800 series clustering hardware is a two-part process:

Recabling Channel B for redundant disk loops  Top

To recable your Channel B loops and convert your cluster to stand-alone filers, complete the following steps.

Note
This procedure assumes that you have DS14 disk shelves and dual Fibre Channel adapters.

Step

Action

1

Halt both filers by entering the following command at each console:

halt
2

Ground yourself, then power off the nodes and disk shelves.

3

Unplug the local node from the partner node's Channel B disk shelf and do the same for the partner node.

4

Connect the local node to the open Channel B loop in its local disk shelves.

5

Repeat Step 4 for the partner node.

6

Go to Removing the hardware.

Removing the hardware  Top

To remove the clustering hardware and extra FC-AL adapters, complete the following steps.

Step

Action

1

Ground yourself, using the antistatic wrist strap.

2

Remove the interconnect cables from the cluster adapter.

3

Open the back of the local node, as described in the F800 Series Hardware Guide.

4

If applicable, unlock and remove the GBIC from the adapter (typically used with VI cluster adapters).

5

Unscrew the adapter from the chassis.

6

Remove the adapter.

7

Replace the slot cover and secure it with the screw from the adapter.

8

Remove any extra FC-AL or dual Fibre Channel adapters.

9

Close and secure the back of the filer, as described in the F800 Series Hardware Guide.

10

Power on first the disk shelves and then the filer; press the Delete key during boot to get to the OK prompt.

11

Unset the partner system ID by entering the following command at the OK prompt:

unsetenv partner-sysid
12

Boot the filer by entering the following command at the OK prompt:

boot
13

Check the status of clustering on the filer by entering the following command on the console:

cf status

Result

Cluster monitoring is disabled, as indicated by the following message:

Cluster monitor not initialized
14

Repeat Step 1 through Step 13 for the partner node.
