Backing up and restoring from the emulated filer
Emulated filer tape drives inaccessible
You can perform dumps and restores on the emulated filer. However, neither the takeover filer nor the emulated filer can access the tape drives or other peripheral devices on the failed filer.
Prerequisites to performing dumps on an emulated filer
Any dump commands directed to the failed filer's tape drives are executed on the takeover filer's tape drives. Therefore, any dump commands that you execute through the cron command succeed only under the following conditions:
- The device names are the same on both filers in the cluster.
- The dump commands for the filer and the emulated filer are not scheduled to occur during the same time period; the filer and the emulated filer cannot access the tape drives simultaneously.
Performing dumps on an emulated filer
You can perform dumps on an emulated filer by using the dump command on the takeover filer in partner mode. For information about performing dumps on a filer, see the Data Protection Guide.
Performing restores on an emulated filer
To perform restores on the emulated filer, complete the following steps.
