Choosing a language for a volume

About volumes and languages  Top

Every volume has a language. The filer uses a character set appropriate to the language. You can specify a language for each volume if you do not want to use the language of the root volume. You can specify the language of a volume when you create the volume or change it later.

The language you specify determines which character set the filer uses for the following names:

Language codes  Top

You use a language code to specify a language, as described in Creating a volume.

The filer supports the languages shown in the following table. The language code for each language appears next to the language. If you want to override the normal UNIX character set so that a UNIX system uses UTF-8 as the NFS character set, add UTF-8 to the language code.
