A host adapter can be enabled or disabled. You can change the state of a host adapter by using the storage command.

When to change the state of a host adapter  Top

Disable

You might want to disable a host adapter if

You can disable a host adapter only if all disks connected to it can be reached through another adapter. Consequently, SCSI adapters and adapters connected to single-attached devices cannot be disabled.

If you try to disable an adapter that is connected to disks with no redundant access paths, you will get the following error message:

"Some device(s) on host adapter n can only be
accessed through this adapter; unable to disable adapter"

After an adapter connected to dual-connected disks has been disabled, the other adapter is not considered redundant; thus, the other adapter cannot be disabled.
