Choosing a setup method
Setup method options
You can set up your filer using either of the following methods:
- The setup script, from a console attached to the filer's serial port or from a Telnet client, if you have DHCP enabled
- The Setup Wizard from a Web browser
How to decide which method to use
Use the following table to decide which setup method to use.
If...
|
Use...
|
Your network does NOT support configuration through DHCP
OR
Your filer uses vifs, ATM LANE, or ATM SPANS interfaces
OR
You need to begin setup prior to using the wizard or running cifs setup
OR
You prefer to use the command line to set up your filer
|
The setup script
|
Your network supports configuration through DHCP
AND your filer does NOT use vifs, ATM LANE, or ATM SPANS interfaces
AND you want to set up the filer through a Web browser
AND you use the default Active Directory container for a Windows setup
|
The Setup Wizard
|
You finished using the setup script, the Setup Wizard, or a combination of the two to enter some basic filer configuration information, and now want to configure your filer for CIFS.
|
The cifs setup script
|
Setting up CIFS after running the setup script
Following the setup process, you may use cifs setup to configure your filer exclusively for CIFS client access or for multiple protocols.
If you have a valid CIFS license, cifs setup is automatically invoked upon completion of setup operations using the setup command or the Setup Wizard. However, you may terminate cifs setup at any point and run it later by entering cifs setup from the command line of a Telnet client or a serial port console.
If you plan to join the filer to an Active Directory domain, you may want to consider the setup option described in Precreating a Filer Domain Account in Active Directory (Optional).
