The restore command enables you to recover all the information that you backed up with the dump command so that it is the same as when you did the backup.
The restore command can recover the following data:
Note
If you restore a file that has only UNIX file permissions into an NT file system (NTFS) qtree or volume, the file has no Windows NT ACLs. The filer uses only the UNIX file permissions on this file until you create a Windows NT ACL on it.
Note
Qtree information is used only if a qtree is restored to the root of a volume. If a qtree is restored to a lower directory, such as /vol/vol0/subdir/lowerdir, it ceases to be a qtree and qtree information is not used.
You can restore data from previous versions of Data ONTAP using the restore command. You can perform an incremental restore to a filer running data ONTAP 6.2 or later using data backed up from a filer running pre-Data ONTAP 6.2 by doing one of the following:
Performing a level 0 restore, upgrading Data ONTAP software, then performing incremental restores will not restore the incremental backups because they are in a different format from the level 0 restore. If you do this, you have to repeat the level 0 restore before you can restore incremental backups.
