Creating Diskettes

About this appendix  

This appendix describes how to create the following diskettes from a UNIX or Windows client:

• System boot diskettes
• A system firmware diskette

When to create diskettes  

You do not need to create diskettes for F825, F880, FAS200 series, FAS900 series, or NearStore series filers. These filers do not have a floppy drive and use a CompactFlash card for firmware, diagnostics, and system software downloads.

For all other filers:

• You need to create a set of system boot diskettes if you do not have boot diskettes for the release that you are running.
• You need to create a firmware upgrade diskette whenever you need to upgrade firmware, unless you have an F85 or F87 filer.

  Note
  The F85 and F87 filers use firmware that does not need to be upgraded.

Diskette requirements  

For each diskette that you want to create, you must have a write-enabled, 1.44-MB, PC-formatted diskette.

The number of diskettes you need for each kind of software is shown in the following table.
