Disaster Recovery and Data Migration

About this chapter  

This chapter covers two distinct but similar sets of tasks:

• Preparing a disaster-recovery, or backup, vFiler and activating it if a disaster occurs.
• Moving a vFiler from one physical filer to another (for example, if you are replacing an old filer with a new one). Moving a vFiler is sometimes called "migration."

  Note
  Both the source and destination filers must be running Data ONTAP 6.4 or later. However, the source and destination filers can be running different minor releases of Data ONTAP 6.4. For example, one filer can run 6.4.1 while the other filer runs 6.4.2.

  Note
  The procedures in this chapter do not cover migrating or replicating the hosting filer, vFiler0. The underlying vfiler migrate and vfiler dr commands do not operate on vFiler0.
