Installing the filer in a rack
Positioning your filer
The F800 series filer has adjustable installation brackets that enable you to install it in one of three horizontal positions in the rack.
WARNING
When you install disk shelves and a filer into a rack, install the equipment from the bottom up to ensure the greatest stability.
WARNING
To avoid injuring yourself or damaging the filer, you must work with at least one other person when you install the filer in the rack.
Moving the brackets for a mid-install position
If you want to mid-install the filer in a rack, you must move the brackets on the sides of the filer from the default position.
To move the brackets, complete the following steps.

Action
1 |
Put on an antistatic wrist strap and attach the grounding leash so that you are appropriately grounded.
2 |
Use a #2 Phillips screwdriver to remove the installation brackets attached to each side of the filer.
3 |
For each bracket, select a position 4.75 inches or 9.5 inches from the first hole on one side of the filer and align the bracket holes with the filer holes.

Attach each bracket to the filer by inserting screws into the bracket and filer holes and tightening the screws.

Installing the filer
To install the filer in a 19-inch equipment rack, complete the following steps.
Step
Action
1 |
Put on an antistatic wrist strap and grounding leash.
2 |
Select four holes on each front rack rail.
These holes should have the same spacing as the holes on the filer brackets.
3 |
Align the rack holes with the filer bracket holes.
Work with one side bracket at a time. The person assisting you should stand behind the rack to help support the weight of the filer.
4 |
Insert the #10 steel screws in the bottom hole on each side first and tighten the screws using a #2 Phillips screwdriver.
Caution If the bottom screws are not installed first then the filer will tilt down and bend the mounting brackets. The rack can support the weight of the filer after the filer is attached by the bottom screws.
5 |
Insert the #10 steel screws in the top hole on each side and tighten the screws using a #2 Phillips screwdriver.
6 |
Tighten all the screws.
