Preparing for your installation

The F85 filer can be rack mounted or it can be a freestanding tower. In a rack-mounted system, the F85 filer can also have a single SDS12 disk shelf attached to it.

To prepare your filer for installation, complete the following steps.

Step	Action
1	Check the contents of the shipment against the system packing list.
2	Collect the system components into the immediate installation area.

Shipment package contents

In addition to this guide, your shipment might have the following components:

One F85 ordered to your network and storage specifications
A DB-9 to DB-9 straight-through serial cable for an ASCII terminal connection
Cables for connecting the filer to the SDS12 disk shelf, if you ordered the SDS12 disk shelf
A disposable antistatic wrist strap and grounding leash
SDS12 disk shelf for rack-mounted F85 systems, if you ordered the SDS12 disk shelf

Other components

You can attach a tape backup device to your F85 filer. The System Configuration Guide at http://now.netapp.com lists the tape backup devices supported by the F85.
