Connecting a third-party SCSI tape backup device  Top

To connect a third-party SCSI tape backup device to the filer, complete the following steps, using the figure for reference.

Step

Action

1

If your filer is running, shut it down using the following command:

halt
2

Turn off the power to your filer and unplug it from all power sources.

3

Set the SCSI ID on the tape backup device.

See the device documentation for instructions about how to set the tape backup ID.

Note
Do not use SCSI ID 7 for the device because it is reserved for the SCSI host adapter.

4

Set the ID of your robotic loader for the tape backup device, then go to Step 5.

If you do not have a robotic loader, go to Step 5.

5

Connect one end of the SCSI cable to the top SCSI adapter port in slot 4 of the filer, then connect the other end of the cable to the input port on the tape backup device.

6

Tighten the thumbscrews on the cable ends.

7

Terminate any open ports on the tape backup device with an active SCSI terminator.
