Required tools  Top

The following list specifies the tools you need to install the cluster:

Required equipment  Top

When you receive your cluster, you should receive the equipment listed in the following table. See the System Configuration guide to confirm this equipment.

Required equipment

Standard cluster

Nonswitched MetroCluster

Fabric Attached MetroCluster

Appliance type

Two of the same type of FAS900 appliance: FAS940, FAS960, or FAS980

Storage

Up to the maximum for mirrored clusters. See the System Configuration Guide for storage maximums.

Up to 32 TB of storage for DS14 and DS14mk2 FC disk shelves.

Cluster interconnect adapter

IB cluster adapter (The NVRAM5 functions as the cluster interconnect adapter on the FAS980.)

VI-MC cluster adapter

FC-AL adapter or FC HBA (FC HBA for Disk)

Minimum of two FC-AL adapters

Two FC HBA adapters

Note
The ports on the FC HBA adapters are labeled 1 and 2. However, the software refers to them as a and b. You see these labeling conventions in the user interface and system messages displayed on the console.

Fibre Channel switches

N/A

N/A

Two pairs of Brocade 3800 or 3200 switches, the same type per node.

SFP modules

N/A

N/A

Two per ISL, long distance.

One per switch port used, short distance.

NVRAM5 cluster adapter media converter

Only if using fiber cabling.

Only if using fiber cabling.

N/A

Cables

  • One optical cable per port on the dual Fibre Channel adapter
    or
One HSSDC to DB-9 node-to-shelf cable per disk loop
  • Multiple DB-9 shelf- to-shelf cables
  • Two optical cables with media converters for the IB cluster adapter

    Note
Clusters that have FC9 disk shelves require one MIA (media interface adapter) for each input LRC on the first disk shelves only.

  • Four SC/LC FC-AL to disk shelf cables
  • Two SC/LC IB cluster adapter-to-switch cables
  • Four SC/LC disk shelf-to-switch cables
  • LC/LC node-to-switch cables
  • SC/LC (for DS14) or LC/LC (for DS14mk2 FC) disk shelf-to-switch cables
  • Two LC/LC ISL cables, not provided in shipment
  • HSSDC2-to-HSSDC2 for DS14 disk shelves with ESH modules or DB-9 to DB-9 shelf-to-shelf cables
