To configure the Brocade 3800 or 3200 switch for clustering, complete the following steps.
Step
Action
1 |
Log in to the switch, using the console port and hyperterm, and set the appropriate variables and IP addresses, as described in the appropriate Brocade switch hardware reference manual.
Note Use telnet for subsequent switch login sessions, using the switch IP address. |
2 |
Check the switch firmware by entering the following command:
version
Result
The currently installed switch firmware is displayed. See the NOW Web site at http://now.netapp.com/NOW for the current version of switch firmware.
3 |
If the switch firmware is...
Then...
Current
Go to Step 4.
Out of date
- Download the switch firmware from
the NOW Web site at
http://now.netapp.com/NOW and
install it, as described in the
appropriate Brocade switch hardware
reference manual.
- Reboot the switch.
4 |
Disable the switch by entering the following command:
switchdisable
5 |
Clear any existing configuration on the switch by entering the following command:
cfgclear
6 |
Disable the configuration by entering the following command:
cfgdisable
7 |
Save the configuration by entering the following command:
cfgsave
8 |
Ensure that the switch is configured with default settings by entering the following command:
configdefault
9 |
Set the switch parameters by entering the following command:
configure
Result
You should only set the following parameters:
- Fabric parameters = y
- domain_id = XXX (See your system administrator for this value.)
- Disable device probing = 1
10 |
Exit the configuration utility by entering the following command:
ctrl-d
11 |
Reboot the switch so that the default settings take effect by entering the following command:
fastboot
12 |
Log in to the switch and disable the switch by entering the following command:
switchdisable
13 |
Set the switch port speeds to half duplex by entering the following command for each switch port into which a disk is plugged:
portcfglport port# 0,0,1
Note You only need to do this command on the ports to which disks are attached. |
14 |
If the distance between switches is...
Then...
Between 500 meters and 10 kilometers
Set the ISL port distance on each ISL port to short distance by entering the following command:
portCfgLongDistance ISL-port#, "LE"
Between 10 and 30 kilometers
Set the ISL port distance on each ISL port to long distance by entering the following command:
portCfgLongDistance ISL-port#, "L1"
15 |
Enable the switch by entering the following command:
switchenable
16 |
Set the switch name by entering the following command:
switchname Metro1_switch1
Metro1_switch1 is the name you gave to the current switch. Use a name that is meaningful, such as node name and switch, as in the previous example.
17 |
Check the switch settings by entering the following command:
configshow
18 |
Repeat Steps 1 through 16 on the second switch on the local node.
19 |
Go to Step 3: Cabling the local node
