Converting an existing cluster to a Fabric Attached MetroCluster

Converting a cluster  Top

To convert an existing cluster into a Fabric Attached MetroCluster, complete the following steps.

Step

Action

1

Update Data ONTAP, filer firmware, and disk firmware, as described in Out-of-date software and firmware, making sure to shut down the nodes to the OK prompt.

Note
Make sure that you halt the nodes and power cycle the disk shelves after installing updated disk firmware.

2

Update your hardware by replacing components, as described in Failed adapters.

Note
You must have FC HBA for Disk adapters installed in each node and each node must have VI-MC cluster adapters.

3

Determine your switch and cluster configuration by completing the planning worksheet in Step 1: Planning the Fabric Attached MetroCluster.

4

Set up and configure the local switches, as described in Step 2: Configuring the local switches.

5

Cable the local node, as described in Step 3: Cabling the local node.

Standard cluster

  1. Set up mirroring and configure the local node, as described in Step 3: Cabling the local node.
  2. Go to Step 7.

Nonswitched MetroCluster

Go to Step 7.

7

Transport the partner node, disk shelves, and switches to the remote location.

8

Set up the remote node, disk shelves, and switch, as described in Step 4: Cabling the remote switches and node.

9

Configure the cluster, as described in Step 5: Configuring the nodes.
