Installing an R100 chassis

About this section  Top

This section describes your options for installing an R100 chassis in a freestanding 19-inch equipment rack.

Positioning your chassis  Top

The R100 chassis has adjustable installation brackets that enable you to install it in one of three horizontal positions in the rack.

WARNING
When you install disk shelves and a chassis into a rack, you must install the equipment from the bottom up to ensure the greatest stability.

WARNING
To avoid injuring yourself or damaging the chassis, you must work with at least one other person when you install the chassis in the rack.

Moving the installation brackets  Top

If you want to mid-install the chassis in a rack, you must move the installation brackets on the sides of the chassis from the default position.

To move the installation brackets, complete the following steps.

Step

Action

1

Put on an antistatic wrist strap and attach the grounding leash so that you are appropriately grounded.

2

Use a #2 Phillips screwdriver to remove the installation brackets attached to each side of the chassis.

3

For each installation bracket, select a position 4.75 inches or 9.5 inches from the first hole on one side of the chassis and align the installation bracket holes with the chassis holes.

4

Attach each installation bracket to the chassis by inserting screws into the bracket and chassis holes and tightening the screws.

Installing the chassis  Top

To install the chassis in a 19-inch equipment rack, complete the following steps.

Step

Action

1

Put on an antistatic wrist strap and grounding leash.

2

Select four holes on each front rack rail.

These holes should have the same spacing as the holes on the chassis installation brackets.

3

Align the rack holes with the installation bracket holes on the chassis.

The person assisting you should stand behind the rack to help support the weight of the chassis.

4

Insert the mounting screws in the bottom hole on each side first and tighten the screws using a #2 Phillips screwdriver.

Note
The rack can support the weight of the chassis after the chassis is attached by the bottom screws. You do not need another person to hold the chassis from the back of the rack after fastening these screws.

5

Insert and tighten the remaining screws.
