The ASCII terminal console enables you to monitor the boot process and helps you configure the storage engine after it boots. Use an ASCII terminal attached through the serial port on the back of the storage engine if you want to perform system administration.
Note
Make sure that you are using an ASCII terminal console attached to the storage engine serial port, and that the display length is set to 25 lines.
The ASCII terminal console is connected to the storage engine with a DB-9 serial cable, attached to a DB-9 to RJ-45 converter cable, then through the serial port on the back of the storage engine.
The following table lists how the DB-9 serial cable is wired. Input indicates data flow from the ASCII terminal to the storage engine and output indicates data flow from the storage engine to the ASCII terminal.
To connect an ASCII terminal console to the storage engine, complete the following steps.
| 1 | Set the following communications parameters to the same values for both the storage engine and ASCII terminal. |

| 2 | Connect the DB-9 serial cable to the DB-9 to RJ-45 converter cable, then connect the RJ-45 end to the console port on the storage engine and the other end to the ASCII terminal. |
|
| 3 | Go to Connecting the system to a power source and powering on. |
