Managing FCP adapters

How to configure media types  Top

Use the following table to decide how to configure the media type of an HBA.

When you...

Use this media type

Want Data ONTAP to detect what media type to use for either node, the initiator (host) or the target (filer)

autosense

Are connecting the host directly to the filer

Note
NetApp recommends that you use ptp whenever the host supports it.

ptp

Are connecting the host and filer to a Fibre Channel switch

Note
Some switches support both ptp and loop. For more specific information about which media type to use, see the vendor-supplied documentation for your switch.

loop

Changing the filer's WWNN  Top

The WWNN of a filer is generated by a serial number in its NVRAM, but it is stored on disk. If you ever replace a filer chassis and reuse it in the same NetApp SAN, it is possible, although extremely rare, that the WWNN of the replaced filer is duplicated. In this unlikely event, you can change the WWNN of the filer by completing the following step.

Step

Action

1

Enter the following command:

fcp nodename nodename

nodename is a 64-bit WWNN address

Example

fcp nodename 50:a9:80:00:02:00:8d:ff

Specifying a partner adapter  Top

Step

Action

1

fcp config partner adapter
