Understanding the DAFS service implementation

DAFS client-server implementation  Top

The DAFS service is implemented as a client-server solution. The DAFS server runs on a NetApp filer and is integrated into the Data ONTAP software. The client is any system that runs a DAFS client. The DAFS client uses the DAFS protocol over a DAT connection to access files maintained by a NetApp filer running the DAFS server. This release supports the VI/IP networking infrastructure for the client-server DAT connection.

Multiprotocol file access  Top

File systems can be mounted simultaneously using DAFS, CIFS, and NFS. Network Appliance recommends that you never share files concurrently between DAFS, CIFS, and NFS.

Transport requirements  Top

DAFS is not a transport protocol for SnapMirror, SNMP, or NDMP; TCP/IP is still required.
