Managing exports for DAFS service

About DAFS exports  Top

A DAFS export is a uniquely named object associated with a filer path (export point). DAFS clients access filer volumes or qtrees through DAFS exports. The DAFS exports are visible to DAFS clients, allowing them either read-only or read-write access. Volumes and qtrees must be exported before they can be accessed.

Each DAFS export has an associated access control list (ACL) based on the DAFS client host. For more information about host access, see Managing client host access to DAFS exports.

About managing DAFS exports  Top

To manage DAFS exports for the DAFS service, you use the dafs export command. The command syntax and functions are as follows:

For more information, see the Data ONTAP command reference for dafs export.

About naming DAFS exports  Top

The dafs export create command enables you to specify a name for each exported path. When you create DAFS exports with this command, you should use unique prefixes for each export name.

If you create exports with matching prefixes, then you cannot delete a specific export. The dafs export destroy command deletes all exports with matching prefixes in their names. For example, if you create three exports named exp1, exp12, and exp13, then all the export names have an "exp1" prefix. If you use the dafs export destroy command to delete exp1, the command deletes all three exports.

Creating a DAFS export  Top

To create and name a new DAFS export, complete the following step.

Step

Action

1

At the filer command line, enter the following command:

dafs export create [-r] export_name path

export_name is the DAFS export name.

path is the associated filer path.

-r creates a read-only export.

The default access is read-write.

Result

A new DAFS export is created.

Examples:

filer> dafs export create data1 /vol/vol3
filer>

In this example, the data1 export with the /vol/vol3 filer volume path is created.

filer> dafs export create data2 /vol/vol3/qtree2
filer>

In this example, the data2 export with the /vol/vol3/qtree2 filer qtree path is created.

Destroying a DAFS export  Top

To destroy a named DAFS export, complete the following step.

Step

Action

1

At the filer command line, enter the following command:

dafs export destroy export_name

export_name is the DAFS export name.

Result

The named DAFS export is destroyed. Access by DAFS clients is removed when the next client access is attempted.

Example:

filer> dafs export destroy data1
filer>

In this example, the data1 export is destroyed.

Listing DAFS exports  Top

To list the DAFS exports and their properties, complete the following step.

Step

Action

1

At the filer command line, enter the following command:

dafs export list [export_name]

export_name specifies a single DAFS export name; otherwise all DAFS exports are displayed.

Result

The display shows a list of DAFS exports.

Example:

filer> dafs export list
Name: data1
        Export point: /vol/data1
        Enabled: true
        Read/Write Mode: read_write
Name: vol0
        Export point: /vol/vol0
        Enabled: true
        Read/Write Mode: read_write
2 export(s) found

Modifying a DAFS export  Top

To modify a DAFS export's read-only or read-write attributes, complete the following step.

Step

Action

1

At the filer command line, enter the following command:

dafs export modify -r|-w export_name

export_name is the DAFS export name.

-r marks the DAFS export as a read-only export.

-w marks the DAFS export as a read-write export.

Result

The named DAFS export's attributes are modified.

Example:

filer> dafs export modify -r data1
filer>

In this example, the data1 export is modified to be a read-only export.

Enabling a disabled DAFS export  Top

To enable a previously disabled DAFS export, complete the following step.

Step

Action

1

At the filer command line, enter the following command:

dafs export enable export_name

export_name is the DAFS export name.

Result

The named DAFS export is enabled and is now available to be accessed by DAFS clients.

Example:

filer> dafs export enable data1
filer>

In this example, the data1 export is reenabled.

Disabling a DAFS export  Top

To disable a DAFS export, complete the following step.

Step

Action

1

At the filer command line, enter the following command:

dafs export disable export_name

export_name is the DAFS export name.

Result

The named DAFS export is disabled and can no longer be accessed by DAFS clients. The configuration information for the disabled export is preserved on the filer. This is useful when you perform maintenance on your filer.

Example:

filer> dafs export disable data1
filer>

In this example, the data1 export is disabled.

Reexporting all DAFS exports  Top

To reexport all the DAFS exports, complete the following step.

Step

Action

1

At the filer command line, enter the following command:

dafs export all

Result

All DAFS exports are reexported for the current host.

Example:

filer> dafs export all
filer>
