Choosing a clustered upgrade procedure

Which procedure to use for clustered filer upgrades  

The procedure you use to download Data ONTAP to clustered filers depends on the filer type and the kind of upgrade--nondisruptive or standard.

• Nondisruptive upgrades are most appropriate for the following circumstances:
  • Your filers use CompactFlash cards (F825 and F880 filers, and FAS270 and FAS900 series filers).
  • You are upgrading within a release family (for example, from Data ONTAP 6.5 to 6.5.2).
  • There is no disk firmware upgrade associated with the software upgrade.
  • High availability of filer services is critical.

• Standard upgrades are most appropriate when you can schedule downtime for major software changes.

  You must use standard upgrade procedures when you upgrade from one release family to another.

  • Downloading Data ONTAP to clustered F825 and F880 filers, and clustered FAS900 series filers
  • Downloading Data ONTAP to clustered FAS270 filers
  • Downloading Data ONTAP to clustered F810, F820, and F840 filers, and clustered F700 series filers
