Understanding SNMP when used with vFilers
About SNMP
SNMP is not supported on individual vFilers; it is supported only on the hosting filer. You can enable SNMP on the hosting filer to collect data about vFilers.
About vFiler data in the standard MIB and NetApp custom MIB
In the standard MIB, all vFiler data is global. It pertains to the sum of data from all vFilers on the filer, with the following exceptions:
- Statistics related to network interfaces are for the interfaces in the default IPspace.
- TCP statistics include data only from the connections and listen sockets in the default vFiler.
- UDP statistics include data only from sockets in the default vFiler.
- Quota information is gathered for each volume. If the hosting filer or a vFiler owns a volume with quotas, quota information is provided for the hosting filer or vFiler owning the volume. If a vFiler owns qtrees in a volume that it does not own, no quota information is provided for the vFiler.
In the NetApp custom MIB, a group named vFiler is included. It is for per-vFiler information such as the vFiler license, IP address, protocols allowed, and so on.
