The filer supports rsh (Remote Shell) with trusted remote hosts–those remote hosts listed in /etc/hosts.equiv file on the root volume. This file is maintained using the Security > Manage rsh Access option.
The Manage Rsh Access option enables you to view and edit the listings in the /etc/hosts.equiv file. The filer reads the /etc/hosts.equiv file to determine whether a remote host (or a remote host and users on the host) is allowed to do the following tasks:
Connect to the filer through the Remote Shell (rsh) protocol
Back up the filer
Copy a volume to or from the filer
If a host is listed in this file, that host is considered to be a trusted host. If a user on a host is listed in this file, that user is considered to be a trusted user.
If you plan to connect to the filer through rsh from a PC, in addition to specifying the PC as a trusted host, you must specify the name of the PC user as a trusted user in the /etc/hosts.equiv file. The user name is required even though the filer accepts rsh connections only from the root user.
