Data ONTAP supports a system account and optional administrative user accounts. The name of the system account is root. Administrative user accounts use names that consist of one or more ASCII characters.
There is no difference between the control that an administrator can exert over a filer using the system account or an administrative user account. Administrative user accounts add security by allowing accounts to be established for individuals on one or more filers while those accounts are not enabled on other filers. This scenario enables the system account password to remain secret.
Note: The password is case-sensitive and limited and case-sensitive to only eight characters for the filer.
