You add aggregates by using the Aggregate Wizard. When you add an aggregate, the wizard asks you for the following information:
A name for the aggregate.
RAID type (double parity or RAID 4)
RAID group size
Disks to include in the aggregate. You can select the disks manually or have Data ONTAP select the disks for you automatically, based on disk size.
Note To add a mirrored aggregate, you must use the Data ONTAP command-line interface. See the Data Protection Online Backup and Recovery Guide for details.
The maximum number of aggregates allowed per appliance is 100, regardless of which type of volume the aggregate contains. The maximum number of volumes allowed per appliance is 200, regardless of which type of volume it is. For example, if you create ten traditional volumes (each having exactly one containing aggregate), and twenty aggregates, each containing four flexible volumes, there are a total of thirty aggregates (ten from the traditional volumes, plus the twenty created for flexible volumes) and ninety volumes on the appliance, both well under the maximum limits for either aggregates or volumes.
For clusters, these limits apply to each node individually, so the overall limits for the pair are doubled.
