Use the Volume Wizard to create both flexible volumes and traditional volumes. Consider creating one or more additional volumes under the following circumstances:
A current traditional volume has more disks or storage than is convenient to manage as one unit.
You want to accommodate users with different security styles or oplocks requirements than the current volumes meet, and you do not want to create a qtree for that purpose.
You have a multilingual environment and want to provide one volume for each language and character set.
The maximum number of volumes allowed per appliance is 200, regardless of which type of volume it is. The maximum number of aggregates allowed per appliance is 100, regardless of which type of volume the aggregate contains.
For example, if you create ten traditional volumes (each having exactly one containing aggregate), and twenty aggregates, each containing four flexible volumes, there are a total of thirty aggregates (ten from the traditional volumes, plus the twenty created for flexible volumes) and ninety volumes on the appliance, both well under the maximum limits for either aggregates or volumes.
For clusters, these limits apply to each node individually, so the overall limits for the pair are doubled.
