Double Parity

To indicate that you want to use double parity disk protection (RAID DP), leave the check box selected.

Using double parity provides disk protection against single or double disk failure within a RAID group. You need to have at least three disks in a double parity group: one or more data disks, a regular parity disk, and a double-parity disk. For example, a three-disk aggregate or traditional volume could be parity-protected even if one data and one parity disk failed.

In case of a single or double disk failure, Data ONTAP replaces the failed disk or disks in the RAID group with one or two spare disks and uses the parity data to reconstruct the data of the failed disks on the replacement disks.

The default setting is to use double parity disk protection (check box selected).

Note: A gFiler uses a back-end storage system, so the double parity setting is not applicable.

See the Data ONTAP Storage Management Guide for more information about RAID types.
