Minimal Read Ahead

Specifies whether minimal read ahead is enabled (check box selected) or disabled (check box unselected). If minimal read ahead is disabled, the filer is set to aggressive read ahead.

If the file access patterns of your clients are random (nonsequential) and the cache age is less than 3, enabling minimal read ahead might improve performance. (Use the sysstat command to determine the cache age.)

By default, the filer uses aggressive read ahead (check box unselected), which enhances sequential access and is more commonly used by UNIX clients and applications.
