Replacing the CompactFlash unit

Shut down your gateway by entering the following command at the console:

halt

Caution
Always use the halt command to perform a clean shutdown of the gateway. If you do not perform a clean shutdown before removing the CompactFlash unit, your system panics.

Turn off the power to your gateway.

Pull the bezel straight off the front panel of your gateway by using the grooves on the left and right edges of the bezel.

Push the eject button on the right front of the CompactFlash reader.

Pull the CompactFlash unit out of the reader.

Fully engage the CompactFlash unit by pushing it all the way into the slot on the front of the CompactFlash reader.

Reinstall the front bezel by aligning the pins on the bezel with the holes on the front panel of your gateway, then pushing the bezel straight onto the front panel.

Turn on the power switch to your gateway.

Interrupt the boot process by pressing the Delete key during the memory test.

Run CompactFlash unit diagnostics by entering the following command at the ok> prompt:

sys-diag

Exit the diagnostics to return to the ok> prompt.

Boot from hard disk by entering the following command at the ok> prompt:

boot fcal

Result

This causes the system to boot from the hard disk instead of the CompactFlash unit.

Update the image on the CompactFlash unit by entering the following command at the gateway prompt:

download

Result

The CompactFlash image is restored using information from the hard disk.

Boot from the CompactFlash unit by entering the following command at the gateway prompt:

reboot
