Getting Started with Software Setup

Do not proceed with gFiler software upgrade or installation until you have read the Getting Started Guide for your vendor and the Release Notes. These documents contain information about storage system software and parameter settings that are essential for a successful gFiler software installation.

The following Getting Started Guides are currently available in the gFiler Gateway Series library:

Getting Started for Hitachi Data Systems
Getting Started for IBM
Getting Started for Hitachi, Limited

Before you start the set up and installation process of Data ONTAP software on a gFiler, you must do the following:

On the storage subsystem, create LUNs and make them available to the gFiler, as described in the following documentation:
- The gFiler Gateway Series Getting Started Guide for your storage subsystem. (The process of making LUNs available varies among vendors.)
- Your storage subsystem documentation
Connect your gFiler and storage subsystem
- See the gFiler Gateway Series Hardware Installation Guide.

Features described in this guide

This guide describes features that can only be used with gFilers. Data ONTAP provides a variety of other features that can be used both with filers and gFilers. Use the Data ONTAP documentation suite for information about setting up those features. The gFiler Series Getting Starting Guide lists Data ONTAP features that are not applicable to gFilers.
