Use the Data ONTAP documentation in conjunction with the gFiler series of documentation. The gFiler software documents contain the information that you need to set up the Data ONTAP software on your gFiler so that storage subsystem and the gFiler can operate together. The gFiler software documents also contain information about features that are not supported in Data ONTAP or work differently for the gFiler and the filer. See the gFiler Gateway Series Documentation Roadmap for information about the documents in the gFiler gateway series documentation library.
Of the guides in the Data ONTAP documentation set, NetApp recommends that you read the Storage Management Guide first.
In some cases, different terminology is used between filer users and gFiler users (that is, users from a storage subsystem background). In most cases, the Data ONTAP documents use the terminology relevant to filer users. Therefore, you need to "translate" some of the words in the Data ONTAP guides to the context applicable to the gFiler. For example:
Any specific platform information stated for the filer is true for the gFiler series counterpart.
The FilerView® interface is a Web-based administration tool for Data ONTAP that enables you to perform most administration tasks from any host on your network that has a compatible Web browser. Through FilerView, you can perform tasks that otherwise require you to enter commands at the gateway prompt or edit configuration files.
You are not required to purchase an HTTP license to use FilerView.
To access FilerView, complete the following steps.
The initial page contains the choices shown in the following table.
The FilerView interface consists of two frames: a left frame and a right frame.
The left frame contains an expandable list of categories:
You can view the real-time displays or the functions in a category by clicking the Real Time Status or a category name. You can select a real-time display or a function by clicking the display or function name.
The right frame contains a logo initially.
As you select functions from the left frame, the right frame changes to display forms that provide information about the gateway configuration and enable you to change the gateway's configuration. You can alter the gateway configuration by changing information that is displayed in forms and then saving the information. The top of the window contains a Help button that you can click to view Help for the form that is currently displayed in the right frame.
Autosupport is automatically enabled when you run setup on a gateway for the first time. Depending on how Autosupport is configured, it sends event messages and weekly reports to your specified recipients, NetApp Technical Support, or both. Autosupport can significantly decrease the time it takes to assess and resolve problems that might occur on your system. If you do not want to send any Autosupport messages, you can disable Autosupport by entering options autosupport.support.enable off within 24 hours after you complete the setup process. You can also disable Autosupport any time after the first 24 hours by using the same command.
See your Getting Started Guide to determine whether your organization will be using Autosupport.
The NOW site at http://now.netapp.com is available to some customers. It provides a variety of information, including a knowledge base. If you do not have access to NOW, contact your authorized reseller.
