Installing licenses on the gateway

Entering codes for new licenses

Before you can install Data ONTAP, you must install an NFS or a CIFS license. You can install other licenses, such as the license for SyncMirror or SnapMover, before or after you install Data ONTAP.

The procedure you use to install licenses differs slightly depending on whether you are installing licenses on a single gateway or a gateway cluster.

Enabling licenses on a single gateway

To enter new license codes, complete the following steps.

1	Enter the following command on the console: *license add code* ...** code is the license code that you were given when you purchased the license for a service or protocol. Example In this example, the license code for CIFS is ABCDEFG and the license code for gateway is TUVWXYZ. `license add ABCDEFG TUVWXYZ` Result The gFiler acknowledges each license, similar to that shown in the following example: A cifs license has been installed. Use "cifs setup" to configure cifs. Run cifs setup to enable cifs. A gateway license has been installed. gateway storage will be enabled after reboot.
2	Reboot the gateway using the following command: reboot

Example

In this example, the license code for CIFS is ABCDEFG and the license code for gateway is TUVWXYZ.

license add ABCDEFG TUVWXYZ

Result

The gFiler acknowledges each license, similar to that shown in the following example:

A cifs license has been installed.

         Use "cifs setup" to configure cifs.

         Run cifs setup to enable cifs.

A gateway license has been installed.

         gateway storage will be enabled after reboot.

Reboot the gateway using the following command:

reboot

Enabling licenses on a gateway cluster

To enter new license codes on a cluster, complete the following steps.

Step	Action
1	Enter the cluster license code using the following command on both gateway consoles: license add code code is the license code.
2	Reboot both gateways using the following command: reboot
3	Enable clustering on each gateway by entering the following command on each gateway console: cf enable
4	Ensure that clustering is enabled using the following command on each gateway console: cf status Result Each gateway responds with a message similar to the following: Cluster enabled, gateway 2 is up
5	Repeat Step 1 for other licenses using the `license` command for each licensed product installed on the cluster.
6	Reboot both gateways of the cluster.
