MetroCluster configuration

About MetroCluster configurations  Top

This section discusses how to configure your gateway in a MetroCluster configuration. The MetroCluster configuration expands on the switch-attached cluster configuration.

Also included in this section are rules for zoning switch ports, which is required for MetroCluster configurations.

Supported gateways  Top

The following gateways support the MetroCluster configuration:

You need the following adapters for a MetroCluster:

Configuration A

The following diagram provides an example of how the low-end gFilers connect to your storage subsystem for maximum capacity.

Port-to-port connectivity  Top

The following port-to-port scheme supports a maximum of 448 LUNs for the low-end gFilers and a maximum of 512 LUNs for the higher-end gFilers in a redundant configuration.

Configuration B

The following diagram provides an example of how the GF940/GF960/GF980 connects to your storage subsystem for a maximum of 672 LUNs.

Note
HBA connections must never share the same zone as VI-MC connections. Zoning individual HBA connections is not required.

The illustration below shows a MetroCluster configuration with two cluster nodes. Gateways 1 and 3 are partner nodes and gateways 2 and 4 are partner nodes.

Caution
You can attach a standard cluster to either the first or second pair of MetroClustered gateways, but not to both pairs.

Zoning rules for MetroCluster maximum configuration  Top

You must zone the ports on your switch if the following conditions are true:
