What a gFiler is

Overview of a gFiler in the network  Top

The NetApp industry-standard gFiler gateway is a virtualization and storage consolidation solution that provides unified NAS and SAN access to data stored in heterogeneous Fibre Channel (FC) SAN storage subsystems. The gFiler provides file-level and block-level access to data stored in Fibre Channel storage subsystems through client systems and application hosts on an IP network, a Fibre Channel network, or both.

Like all NetApp storage appliances, the gFiler is based on the Data ONTAP operating system, which supports multiprotocol file services and advanced data management capabilities for consolidating, protecting, and recovering data for applications and users.
